After all of the hassles we've had with Qwest moving into our new offices I would love to find a way that our entire business could operate without a landline telephone system! It took a call to the President of Qwest (she did respond) to get things in order...after a five week delay. Bring on the technology. Put the phone companies (as we know them today) out of business.

Landlines are a declining technology, and cell-phones are in the ascendancy. But maybe landlines will be around for a long time, although not as widespread as in the past. Previous technologies that are superceded tend to often find their own niches and continue to survive: radio, vinyl, morse code.
Cell phones, meanwhile, are increasing in sophistication and power, and fast becoming portable all-purpose devices, as incredible as anything we could have imagined.

David:

Personally, I do not carry a cell phone these days for two reasons:

1. My current job does not pay for it and I am cheap.

2. According to hearing tests, my hearing is ok. Unfortunately, those tests are always in a situation with no ambient noise. In a real world with ambient noise, I have found it difficult to listen to a cell phone. Headsets are uncomfortable (and make you look like a Borg from the old STTNG TV series).
